CELEBRATING ARBOR DAY WITH ALPHA ALPHA GAMMA OMEGA CHAPTER OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC.

In celebration of Arbor Day, the ladies of The Alpha Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated came over to Big Mama's to plant a variety of trees as an act of service and environmental restoration.

Arbor Day, much like Earth Day, is a day to celebrate nature and environmental stewardship. The local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha rooted its Enhance Our Environment initiative in our beloved land, Big Mama;s House on a day that means so much to our efforts and mission.

As a longtime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, words cannot describe how immensely grateful I was to share this day of restorations, resources, and relationships as my sorority sister Sherrita Wade expressed.

Historically, Arbor Day began with the hopes that people would plant trees in honor and memory of a loved one. I can't think of a more fitting moment to share in planting a tree with a sorority sister who lost her mother recently on my great grandmother's land that had trees galore. Now the Legacy Garden at Big Mama's has peach trees, crape myrtles, oak cherry, and more.

I look forward to watching these trees grow, bear fruit, and beautify the land that has belonged to my family.

We had such a beautiful time together we didn't want to leave each other. There were so many moments where we committed to doing this again. Next time, we promised to bring the speakers again, a grill, and laughter to continue on with our love for enhancing the environment. Before we left, we also filled the raised beds with mulch and soil to begin planting for the legacy garden.

As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., I would like to thank the Alpha Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter for sharing space, enhance the environment, and planting trees that we look forward to seeing blossom.
